Will my rates increase if damage to other vehicle is less than deductible?
by Mary
(Minnesota)
My son rear ended a rental car @ an intersection & the police were called. Insurance info was exchanged & our insurance company has been in contact with us. We just got the bill from the rental company & it is under $300-our deductible is $500. Since the cost to repair is so low & we are paying it, will our rates still go up? is it possible to cancel the claim to avoid a rate increase? Thanks.
Answer:
Hello Mary,
Your rates are unlikely to go up if this is the only claim you have on your record. This was your son's fault and if this is his first claim, it may have an effect.
Even if your rates go up, it may not be significant to be too worry about it. Do talk to your adjuster and underwriting department for more information.
