Leaving the scene of an accident

I lost control of my ford pick-up and totaled it. I then left the scene. I went to a friend's house and feel asleep the next day I called the insurance company and then the police. Can my insurance denied my claim because I left the scene of an accident?

Answer to Leaving the scene of an accident

It is unlikely. If there are no other vehicle's involved or damage to third party property, you could call in the report. Most of the time, the police will not even come out to investigate.

The insurance company may ask you why you left or why the police was not called before you called the carrier. Typically, they will try to determine if you were drinking or the reason why you did not call (which may apply other exclusions from the policy).

If you have issues with the insurance company, don't hesitate contacting an attorney.
