Lapsed insurance | Can they grant coverage here?

I was in an accident today and when I pulled out my insurance card, the expiration date said 5/27/10. I did not realize my renewal was due because I never got a bill. However, when I got home, in the mailbox was a "last notice letter to renew my policy.

Do I have any hope of them paying for the accident?

Well, if you are still within the "grace" period, there may be coverage (if you pay for insurance). It really depends on how the policy is written and what your carrier does regarding grace periods.
