Hit a Deer | Coverage?
by Susan
(Illinois)
The other day I hit a deer as I was driving home from the grocery store. The ironic thing about this is, I just upgraded from liability to full coverage last week!
Anyway, I never called the cops and I haven't even filed my claim yet. I'm afraid they might be skeptical since I did just upgrade to full coverage.
The whole passenger side of my car where the deer hit is ruined. Do you have any advice as to what my plan of action should be? I live in Illinois. Thanks.
Answer:
Hello Susan,
I am sorry to hear about your situation. Yes, this will probably raise a red flag regarding coverage.
Did your agent inspected your car before you upgraded? Also, do you have any other evidence that this was a deer (blood, hair, etc…)?
The insurance company will be asking question regarding this so you be prepared for some questioning.
If you want to make a claim for coverage, then make sure that you have some other evidence to show that the damages is not old (the damage does not have rust). Also, you may want to have some witness regarding the condition of the car before you made the upgrade. Also, if you want to seek coverage, you may want to file as soon as possible. The longer you wait, the more suspicious it will make them.
