Faulty party insurance cannot be located

Last night I had an accident. Police came on the scene. They gave us an 'Accident Information Exchange Slip' with the insurance company and policy number of the other party.

I could find the insurance company from the internet but the company is unable to locate the policy in the database. What's my next step. Thanks

Contact your own insurance company and see if they can locate the other insurance company (sometimes they know by looking at the format of the policy number).

Also contact the person who hit you, they may tell you what insurance carrier they have.

If that fails, call the cops, they may make them give you that information.
