Does my live-in girlfriend have to submit to a background check if my car is stolen?
My car was stolen and my insurance agent told her she needed to submit to a background check so that they could see if she had any prior record of car theft/fraud, etc...
We are not married and have no joint accounts or legal anything together. Is this legal? Is this ethical? We live in Minnesota.
Answer:
Ethical? We don't see what it would be unethical. If she has nothing on her record, why worry about it?
Give the insurance company what they need to pay the claim.
She is a member of your household (married or not), and they can inquire as to those issues.
Good Luck
