Damage from vehicle trailer breaking down in front and hitting my car

I was driving and the truck driving in front of me part of his trailer hitch fell off and damaged my car. The metal piece fell off and hit under my car and broke my oil pan immediately.

The driver said he forgot to latch the piece properly. He must pay for my damages and towing of my car right?

The driver is liable for your damages. His insurance company should pay for all the damages related to this accident, including, but not limited to, towing, repairs, rental, etc.
