Can an Insurance company steer you to one of their repair shops?
by Janet
(Sacramento, Ca)
I have a customer who wants to get their car repaired here and were told by the Insurance Company not to come here as we are not a Direct Repair Shop for them.
They were told we would be charging them storage charges while the car sat here in our shop and we don't guarantee our work.
Answer:
Hello Janet,
The insurance company can suggest, steer, imply, to a consumer to NOT or to go to a particular shop. They can also decline to pay for “unnecessary” fees like storage charges. They cannot require a specific shop, but they can strongly discourage the use of a shop.
Good Luck,
